Nairobi Tented Camp celebrated the end of 2011 with sundowners over looking the Nairobi National Park plains and champagne round the camp fire telling stories and listening to the sounds of the bush.

We have had a busy first month of the year with some fantastic game sightings of lions fighting, serval cats, white rhino’s fighting and black rhino’s mating as shown in the incredible photo taken by Luke Millward. We are very lucky to have around 50 black rhino in our park safely protected from the rapid increase of poaching in other areas of Africa. Without these pressures of being hunted the rhino in Nairobi National Park are very relaxed around the game viewers and carry on their day to day activities as you can see!

We have also had the 3rd of our successful yoga retreats this month run by Oriane Torode. Our multi functioning dining tent was turned into a yoga room while mediation took place on the grass outside. Guests of the retreat were treated to a delicious detox menu to help them to recover from the festive season.

We are also very excited this month to have Paul Wambua take over as head chef in the camp. Paul has been working with the company since it opened in Dec 2010 but has now come on board with us full time. After training at Utalii hospitality college in Nairobi, Paul worked with other safari operations before becoming part of the NTC team.

Nairobi Tented Camp staff ended the month by helping FoNNaP (Friends of Nairobi National Park) with their monthly park clean up. This happens on the last Sunday of every month where members of FoNNaP descend on the park armed with their bin liners and gloves to clear up any plastic and rubbish helping to keep the park clean and natural.

These are Rock hyraxes; in camp you are more likely to HEAR Tree hyraxes giving their unearthly noctournal screams……

Hyraxes are not rodents: they are more closely related to elephants!
